What Is Assisted Living

Wednesday 29 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

Assisted living offers older people the opportunity to live independently, while still having access to the medical and domestic facilities of a nursing home and the day-to-day assistance of trained staff. For those who perhaps find it a bit of a struggle to cope with household tasks such as cooking and cleaning, or want the security of knowing that there is assistance available in case of emergency, assisted living is often an ideal solution to their needs. As such, it is an increasingly popular housing choice for older people, particularly those who do not wish, or feel they do not need, the more restrictive environment of a nursing home.

Although they all tend to offer the same kinds of services, there are several types of assisted living to consider when looking at residential options for older adults. All assisted living facilities will have shared dining facilities, and staff to do cleaning and laundry. Finding The Right Assisted Living

Monday 27 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

Assisted living is something that many find beneficial because though they are not ready to move into a nursing home they enjoy the comfort and security found in knowing that help can be in their home when they need it. Finding the right assisted living program is essential though, because there are some differences from program to program. Many assisted programs have levels or increments and you simply pick the one that relates to your situation. The levels often start with no help, but you live on the premises of the assisted living community. Then, as you age or your disease or problem progresses you can receive more and more help from the assisted living staff.

Comparing Assisted Living

Sunday 26 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

In comparing assisted living with other accommodation options, there are several factors to be borne in mind. The first question that should be asked when comparing assisted living with other residential options is would an assisted living facility be the best choice for the person considering a move. Naturally, different people have different needs, and while assisted living facilities offer regular medical visits, as well as emergency medical care should it be needed, some people will find that their medical requirements are more stringent, or may decide that they would be more comfortable with a greater level of support. In these circumstances, comparing assisted living with a nursing home, it might be felt that the latter would be a more suitable option.

Assisted Living

Saturday 25 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

Assisted living is something that many people have to consider as they get older. Many people are against going to the typical nursing home, so assisted living is the next best thing. When elderly or injured people choose to live in this way they are not necessarily being taken care of every moment of the day, in fact there are many assisted living facilities that allow for people to live entirely on their own. Most of these facilities have at least two sections, one of which allows for people to live entirely on their own and the other in which people need some level of daily care. Being on the premises just means that should things change at any moment the individual is a candidate for daily care.

Assisted Living for My Parents

Friday 24 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

As our parents get older, it is only natural that we become more concerned about their wellbeing. Household tasks that we tend to take for granted, such as preparing meals, cleaning and housekeeping, and personal care, can become increasingly difficult as people get older, and it is not uncommon for older people to struggle with these everyday jobs; this is where assisted living arrangements comes in handy. Traditionally, the only alternative for those who are having trouble maintaining an independent lifestyle has been a nursing home facility, but this can often be an unpalatable option, not only for parents but also their children. Assisted living offers senior citizens the convenience of 24-hour medical care when needed, help with household tasks, dining facilities and social activities, and combines these with the pleasure and quality of life that comes with independent living.

Thursday 23 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

As we get older, we tend to find that it takes us a little longer to do some of the things we used to take for granted – doing the laundry, preparing meals, or catching up on the housework. It’s a common problem, but as time goes on it can make everyday life quite hard, and sometimes you may feel that it is just getting too difficult. In times past, there were few options to help older citizens with tasks like these, except for the possibility of moving into a nursing home, which many people understandably consider a very last resort. Assisted living offers a new option; the opportunity to live independently, combined with the peace of mind and convenience that comes with a trained staff providing a range of services to residents.

Assisted living FAQ’s

Wednesday 22 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

There are a number of questions that are frequently asked about assisted living developments; a few of the more common assisted living FAQ’s are answered here.

The most commonly asked of all assisted living FAQ’s is, is assisted living the right option for me (or my parents)? This will depend on a number of factors, but primarily the degree of support that an older person feels that they need. Assisted living developments provide help with cleaning and laundry, and provide dining facilities, and whilst there are regular visits from medical staff (and emergency medical care if necessary) this may not be sufficient for some older adults, particularly those who are mostly frail or vulnerable. For them, it may be that a nursing home would be more suitable.

Why Assisted Living

Monday 20 November 2006 @ 8:17 am

As we get older, day-to-day tasks that we once performed without a moment’s thought can slowly become difficult, climbing the stairs, cooking a meal, or cleaning a room. For too long, there has been little alternative for older people who find they are struggling to live independently, except to move into a nursing home, an environment that many people do not like for various reasons. However, assisted living offers that alternative; the opportunity to continue to lead an independent life in one’s own home, but with some of the everyday difficulties taken care of by a trained staff, and with the medical and social resources of a nursing home available to residents, if and when they need them, without compromising their freedom in any way.
