I don’t know how business owners ever got along without barcode scanners. I own a little card shop and I can’t imagine having to count every card to see when I need to order or having to enter every barcode number in the computer by hand. With a barcode scanner, all I have to do when I’m ready to order cards is scan the little tag hanging behind the cards. I can also easily tell how many I’ve sold, what kinds of cards are selling poorly, and which ones are the best sellers. Of course, when customers check out, I use the barcode scanner at the register to scan their purchases.
Unfortunately, in today’s society every storeowner has to worry about theft, so I have barcode scanners installed at the front of my business just in case anyone decides to walk out the door without having their purchases scanned first. Since I also carry expensive figurines in my store, I’ve found that using barcode scanners is the best way to protect my assets.
I also own a music store across town. I have thousands and thousands of CDs, some of which would surely walk out the door if I didn’t use barcode scanners. Not only that, but sometimes people buy them somewhere else and try to bring them to me for a refund. All I have to do is use my barcode scanner to know they didn’t come from my store.
I’d say barcode scanners are about the best thing to come along since sliced bread!
